An overview of new machinery that resolves problems with short fiber content by improving cotton yarn structure addresses innovations in prevention and correction. Preventive approaches, which keep short fibers from occurring in the final product, include better combing; proper opening and cleaning in spinning preparation; and Murata Vortex spinning, which improves the number and length of wrapper fibers. Corrective approaches, which properly incorporate short fibers into the final product, include Cotton Incorporated's Engineered Fiber Section system and condensed spinning, which minimizes the change in teh width of fiber strand through the introduction of a compacting media and substantial reduction of the spinning triangle.
