Blending polyester with fine wool yields fine yarns that are superior in strength to conventional single fiber yarns. Advantages of polyester fibers include high tenacity, good luster, uniform yarn manufacturing, and excellent spinnability. Advantages to blending with wool include lower production costs and end products that can be worn in any season. Conventional blending methods include blending staple fibers with wool prior to carding, combed wool slivers with drawn polyester slivers, combed wool tops with converted polyester tops, and wool and polyester yarns at the doubling stage. Polyester/wool blends offer better durability, wrinkle recovery, flame resistance, and water resistance than polyester/viscose yarns.
