Friction twisting with a multifrictional disc unit constrains the textured yarn to contact the discs. The inclination and wrapped angles on the disc surface play an important role in estimating the value of twist and tension. An experiment measured these angles during friction twisting and compared these values with those calculated based on the yarn path forming a geodesic line on the disc surface. The contact thickness calculated by the wrapped angle was in good agreement with observations in the experiment. The overlap triangle, which is the overview representing the overlapped part of the disc, plotted the yarn path. The suitable disc size yielded a symmetrical yarn path, except for the entrance discs, whereas the discs with excessive diameters did not give a symmetrical yarn path. 5 refs.
