Researchers investigated the effects of yarn structure on the tensile elastic behavior of single and double cotton ring spun yarns, cotton rotor spun yarns, and wool ring spun yarns. The single axis tensile load test measured load and extension at break. Testing speed, particularly high speeds, affected extensibilit. Plied yarns had lower elongation loads than those of single yarns. Ring spun yarns had higher elongation loads than those of rotor spun yarns. Although relaxation depended on fiber properties, yarn structure had little effect on relaxation. Retardation trials revealed that the ring spun yarn structure allowed for less elongation than did that of rotor spun yarns. 9 refs.
