Most of the data collected by real time online measurement systems are redundant and unnecessary for yarn visualization and characterization. Researchers are designing an online yarn quality measurement system that eliminates wasteful data handling by extracting, retaining, and synthesizing essential information. The system uses wavelet, joint time frequency, time series analyses, data compression, and algorithms generated from stochastic models. A Lawson-Hemphill Constant Tension Transport system allows yarn sampling every millimeter, and a capacitance sensor measures linear mass density. Tests showed that the variation of yarn mid frequency signals correlated with the appearance of the resultant fabrics. 4 refs.
