Chapter 11 of a series of articles on yarn hairiness focuses on variability in yarn hairiness testing on the B-V, Digital ITQT, and Zweigle G565 testing machines. Experiments used the B-V testing machine to measure the variability of hairiness in conventional and rotor spun cotton yarns. Statistical analysis yeilded the coefficient of variation between and within bobbins and the total coefficient of variation as well as an analysis of variance. Experiments used the Digital ITQT testing machine to measure irregularities in yarn hairiness. Improtant parameters were the number of readings, measurement time, and speed of yarn passage. Experiments used the Zweiglt G565 testing machine to measure irregularities in yarn hairiness within the bobbin. Yarns included cotton, wool, and acrylic/cotton blends. 5 refs.
