Disclosed is a novel method for making conductive yarn. The China Textile Institute has developed a technique involving crosswrapping two fine strands of stainless steel around a core yarn. This produces yarn with superior tensile strength that is suitable for applications such as fencing jackets when combined with orthodox non-conducting yarns. Yarns produced in this way have 100-500 wraps a metre; the diameters of the metal strands will be 0.06-0.12 cm and the core yarn is 500-3000 denier, however, such materials are uncomfortable.
