This report provides information on the effect of preconditioning treatments on yarn properties. Yarn samples were intentionally conditioned to moisture equilibrium in the standard atmosphere from both the wet-side and dry-side. The higher regain achieved at moisture equilibrium from the wet-side preconditioning treatment resulted in fibre swelling which significantly increased yarn linear density and fibre diameter results. The wet-side preconditioning treatmetn produced significantly lower yarn tenacity and much higher extension at break results. Yarn evenness and hairiness results were not influenced to any significant extent by the preconditioning treatment.
