Performance of Lyocell and Lyocell Blend Yarns.

A study of lyocell fibers, blended yarns, and knit fabrics confirmed that lyocell yarn retains its strength when wet and has a wet tenacity higher than that of cotton. When wet, blended yarns also retained their high tenacity and other properties associated with lyocell fibers. Although the bursting strength of the lyocell knit fabrics was high, their abrasion resistance was lower than that of cotton fabrics. Lyocell/polyester blend yarns had higher tenacity than 100 percent lyocell yarns. Lyocell/polyester knit fabrics and 50/50 lyocell/cotton fabrics had higher bursting strength than 100 percent lyocell fabrics. Other lyocell/cotton blends had lower bursting strengths. 2 refs.
