Studies of the influence of ply twist and twist direction on the properties of viscose jet spun yarns showed that plying improved yarn tenacity, breaking extension, and evenness. S twist yarns showed the greatest increase in tenacity. Feed ratios, second jet pressure, and ply twist level and direction determined the level of improvement in yarn properties. Z twist yarns were more rigid than S twist yarns. Z twist yarn flexural rigidity decreased as the ply twist factor increased. S twist yarns with a high twist factor were less rigid than single yarns. Decreased feed ratio and second jet pressure decreased plied yarn rigidity. 14 refs.
