Researchers compared the properties of ring spun, rotor spun, and DREF-3 yarns manufactured from superabsorbent acrylic and cotton fibers and knit into terry fabrics. The acrylic fabrics had superior appearance and hand and showed higher water absorption, water retention, drying capability, and air permeability than did the cotton fabric. Rotor spun yarn fabrics showed the highest water absorption and abrasion resistance properties. Cotton ring spun yarn showed the highest tenacity and lowest extension. 5 refs.
