A computer simulated the air flowing through interlacing nozzles to better understand air flow behavior and calculate the interlacing degree and loop frequency under various conditions while processing fine denier yarn. A decrease in cross sectional area of the inlet hole of the nozzle or an increase in inlet air pressure improved the interlacing. A round cross sectional yarn channel proved to be superior to channels with other shapes. Divergent or significant convergent exits did not provide a positive effect on interlacing, but a modest convergent exit did improve interlacing somewhat. A slightly oblique or tangential air inlet hole favored the interlacing process. 7 refs.
