Examination of the ply twist and twist direction on the properties of viscose jet spun yarns demonstrated that plying improved tenacity, breaking extension, and eveness. The degree of improvement depended upon feed ratio, second jet pressure, and level and direction of ply twist. Z twist yarns were more rigid than S twist yarns, and their flexural rigidity declined as the twist factor increased. S twist and Z twist yarns exhibited less uneveness and fewer imperfections. S twist yarns twisted with higher twist factors were less rigid than corresponding single yarns. The rigidity of S twist yarns declined following and increase in feed ratio and second jet pressure. 14 refs.
