A study used fibrillated lyocell filament yarns with different levels of microhairiness to manufacture finished circular knit fabrics and compared their properties with those of fabrics knit using conventional nonfibrillated cellulosic filament yarns. Fabrics made from fibrillated lyocell filament yarns had a softer hand and more voluminous surface appearance. Fibrillation did not affect the strength and elongation of knit fabrics made using coarse filament yarns (400f40). Elongation values were lower for the fabrics made from fibrillated yarns. Abrasion resistance decreased as the degree of fibrillation increased. Finer counts and modified finishing processes improved the wet abrasion resistance of these fabrics. 1 ref.
