The manufacture of chenille yarns involves feeding an effect yarn to a core yarn and twisting. The machine controls yarn count, twist, and texture. High quality chenille requires electronic clearing to eliminate missing pile. Chenille yarns manufactured from acrylic, viscose, and cotton fibres are the most common in upholstery fabrics. Filament yarns should not be used as lock yarns due to their easy pile loss. Yarn slippage and pile loss are the main problems of upholstery chenille yarn properties affect upholstery fabrics determined that fiber type and yarn twist dictated fabric abrasion resistance. Viscose chenile fabrics abraded more than acrylic and cotton chenille fabrics. Pile length also affected abrasion properties. The abrasion resistance of yarns was a function of the abrasion resistance of the fibers and the geometry of yarns structure.
