Despite the growing popularity of compact spun yarn, most textile mills in Japan do not have the financial capability of conduction research and development programs or make capital investments in the new technology. Japan imports compact spun yarn from India and Switzerland, primarily for the manufacture of dress shirt fabrics. Maruman Shoten was one of the earliest Japanese manufacturers to use compact spun yarns to differentiate dyed dress shirts. Itochu corporation announced that as of January 2002, compact spun yarn is sold out through June deliveries.
