Frequency variations, total harmonic distortion, voltage imbalance, sinusoidality, and other power supply quality parameters affect yarn quality. Variations in power supply parameters affect drafting speed, spindle speed, and balloon size. Changes in drafting speed alter drafting forces, which affect fiber migration in the drafting zone. Irregular migration increases imperfections, Classimat defects, strength variation, hairiness, and end breaks. Variations in spinning tension due to power supply variations affect the difference between yarn breaking force and tension, which increases end breaks. A drive control system for spinning mill power supply improves the hairiness, Uster values, strength coefficient of variations, and end breakage rates of ring spun yarns. 10 refs.
