An introduction to compact spun yarns technology addresses system design, Rieter's COM4 system, Suessen's EliTe system, and properties of compact spun yarns.
Compact spinning, a development of conventional ring spinning technology, is based on
a patent for separating a fiber mass into two indentical strands via air suction. The
drafting system features and aerodynamic condensing mechanism. A vacuum in the nip
also captures fibers at the delivery roll for compaction. Fibers are closer together and
more parallel and the spinning triangle is reduced to the compacting width. The long
protruding fibers of conventional ring spun yarns hinder downstream processing,
whereas the fibers in compact spun yarns are contained and contribute to yarn strength,
resulting in yarns with low hairiness and superior strength and elongation.
