Researchers evaluated the effects of twist on flat polyester yarn properties. Increasing twist increased yarn denier and yarn contraction percentage. The tenacity of four of five yarn samples increased as twist per meter increased up to 1,600 twists per meter and then decreased above 1,600 twists per meter. Yarns with fewer filaments showed a greater increase in tenacity. Yarn elongation increased as twist increased to 1,200 twists per meter for three yarns, to 1,600 twists per meter for one yarn, and to 2,000 twists per meter for one yarn. 5 refs.
