A overview of yarn types and yarn modifications possible via false twist yarn texturing addresses modifying yarn denier by controlling draw ratio, manufacture of combined or plied yarns via control of air jets during texturing, use of air jets to manufacture torque-free yarns, yarn skein shrinkage, modifying yarn bulk and luster, and control of intermingling jets. Air jet intermingling holds the yarn bundle of multi-ply yarns together, which improves weaving and knitting efficiencies. Intermingling of single ply warp yarns holds individual filaments together in a cohesive bundle to prevent yarn damage during passage through the loom reeds. Mild intermingling improves yarn unwinding from the package. Downstream processes, fabric type, production costs, fiber type, and filament denier determine the optimal intermingling method. Nylon intermingles more easily than polyester. Lower filament denier facilitates intermingling.
