A Coulter counter has been used to measure the particle size distributions for wool-scouring liquors. Commercial liquors are shown to have a bimodal distribution: there is one maximum below 1 , with a second in the range 5-10. It is thought that the smaller particles are from the weathered tips of the wool and the larger ones from the unweathered base. During recycling the larger particles are removed and partially coalesce during the formation of woolgrease cream.
