Effluent from textile dyeing processes contains products of decomposed dye and unused intact dyes, some of which contain heavy metals. Therefore, free ionic metal and complexed metal, as well as products from the decomposition of the organic part of the dyes, are present in the effluent. Chelating resins provide a method of speciation of hightly bound metal complexes versus free metal or weakly bound metal complexes. The removal of transition metal from ozonated dye solutions using Chelex resins is discussed.
