A degumming and dyeing machine uses a solar thermal plate collector system to ganerate electricity. Four tubular batteries recharge during times of bright sunlight and ensure machine operation on cloudy days. The machine achieves silk degumming temperatures of between 90 and 93 degrees centigrade and degumming percentage of 22.4 percent. Dyeing of silk, wool, nylon, and cotton yarn occurs at 95 degrees centigrade. Evenness, depth of shade, and washfastness of the dyed yarns are satisfactory. 3 refs.
