Drying speeds, especially at low temperatures, can be increased significantly by the supplementary use of ultrasonic dryers. Electroacoustic investigations and flow measurements determined the operating behavior of experimental ultrasound generators. W. Mathis AG of Zurich, Switzerland built and experimental drying range with an auxiliary ultrasound dryer. Tests on woven cotton fabrics determined the feasibility of flow temperature drying with the assistance of ultrasonics. Drying times with the experimental range were reduced to almost one-third of the time required by conventional drying machines. 12 refs.
