Altamira Colour Limited was founded in 1991 at a cost of 3.5 million pounds sterling. Today, the Scotland vbsed company employs 50 workers at its 28,000 wquare foot plant in Kilwinning. Altamira dyes and finishes knit and woven fabrics, receiving orders from fabric manufacturers throughout the United kingdom. Possessing some of the most sophisticated dyeing and finishing equipment in Europe, and a specially designed laboratory for testing and developing new dye shades, Altamira processes fabric samples ranging from 10 to 30 metrs per batch and fabric lots ranging from 100 to 3,000 meters per run. Laboratory dyes can be delivered within 48 hours. According to founder Elie Chilton, Altamira plans to expand its operations to include the printing of cotton knits.
