After two decades of technological progress (1970s and 1980s), the wet processing industry suffered a number of setbacks resulting from global competition, the demand for smaller lots, the need for cost containment, and requirements for environmental protection. Just in Time manufacturing techniques, new methods for processing smaller lots, environmentally friendly products, ultrafiltration products, and automatic monitoring and control of wet processing have contributed to improving the wet processing industry. Looking forward to the next decade, radio frequency drying, bifunctional dyes, and dyeing methods using supercritical carbon dioxide hold promise.
