Automation i dyehouses can include microprocessors for automatic dyeing cycle control, PLC controllers for managing the functions of dyeing machines, devices for automatic weighting and dosing of dyestuffs and chemicals, and automatic transport and handling of materials. In Biella in 1987, Tessina completely tobotized its plant by using OBEM API/V dyeing machines for tow dyeing in low liquor ratio. In Petinatura di Vercelli, OBEM installed a robotized dyeing plant that processes 20,000 kilograms a day. Three other fully robotized dyehouses are now operational in Biella for dyeing wool or acrylic tops using the new BinForm system. This system uses a robotized overhead crane to pack the tops. Advantages of this system include modularity, which allows the plant to process quantities of between 30 kilograms per minute and 900 kilograms per minute, low liquor ratioseven with reduced loads, blending fibers during cake operations, and the elimination of labor intensive, energy intensive backwashing machines. The process of robotizing dyeing plants with API/O multitube dyeing machines is also discussed.
