Babcock Textilmaschinen recently introduced its Vario-Tex festoon steamer for the fixation of printing pastes on woven and knit fabrics. Babcock offers three versions: the standard Vario-Tex, which employs hot air heated to 160 degrees centigrade; the Vario-Tex LT, which employs saturated steam; and the Vario-Tex HT, which employs superheated steam at a temperature of between 165 and 180 degrees centigrade. The single batch capacity of the Vario-Tex units range from 100 to 520 meters. Fans ensure uniform steam distribution, and special filters arrayed about the steam ducts prevent the circulating current from carrying large condensation droplets into the vicinity of the fabric. At the end of the steaming chamber guide rollers convey the treated fabric onto a spreading table. Babcock also provides a special two stage version of the Vario-Tex for the fixation of reactive dyestuffs on tension sensitive fabrics.
