A panel of expert colorists discriminated between colors on woven fabrics. The correlation coefficient between the color differences perceived by the experts and the color differences measured by colorimeters was very high. Color experts with a great deal of experience could discriminate between shades in a uniform color space more closely than the color discrimination defined by MacAdam's method. An approximate dllipse corresponding to MacAdam's ellipse plotted in an L*A*B* diagram can be a useful color discrimination tool. 11 refs.
