An ejector thermocompressor conserves energy by recycling waste steam into steam for heating. In the process, a motive fluid expands insentropically thourgh a nozzle, convering pressure energy to velocity energy at 100 percent efficiency. Load fluid in the suction chamber mixes with the motive fluid at the suction pressure. This mixture passes through the diffuser, converting velocity energy to pressure energy at efficiencies of between 65 and 95 percent. Ejector thermocompressors are single stage units. The most efficient design has multiple nozzles and relatively large dimensions, and operates at low pressure. Integration of ejector thermocompressors into a multiple stream process system that performs cooling, flashing, and heating functions is possible. Equations that assist in selection, placement, and design are described. 6 refs.
