Supercritical carbon dioxide has been used for a long time in the food industry and its application is specially interesting when the ecological demands are high. A gas may be turned into a liquid by compression below a certain critical temperature; above this critical temperature, beyond the critical pressure, is the supercritical stage. It is possible to dye without water, in supercritical CO with dispersed dyestuffs which are totally dissolved in this media. The dyed textile is dry after dyeing, thus saving a costly drying stage. This dyeing process gives a new impulse to the textile dyeing industry; it is non toxic, ecological and its low viscosity is such that new prospects are opened in terms of bath circulation .
