On the Problems of the Photometric Determination of Dyestuff Concentrations in Dyebaths.

Photometric methods were useful for determining the concentration of dyestruffs in dyebaths. The effectiveness of online determiantion was verified for exhaust dyeing processes using water soluble metal complex dyes in dyebaths for processing nylon and reactive dyes in dyebaths for processing cotton fabrics. The dye liquor was fed continuously throuh a measuring cell where the photometric measurement took place. Sensors employed glass fiber optics or used the attenuated total reflectance principle. Photometric measurement data helped record exhaust curves that determined the compatiblity of dyes in combination dyebaths. Another possible application of photometric methods is the evaluation of exhausted dyebaths to determine if they are suitable for recycling. 7 refs.
