Common problems encountered during the winch dyeing of woven and knitted fabrics include creases, streaky dyeing, abrasion, elongation, patchy dyeing, tailing, distortion, deformity, entanglement, and poor reproducibility. Most often, dyeing problems can be traced to limitations of the dyeing equipment or limitations in the experience and skill of the dyer. In particular, problems may arise during three winch dyeing operations: loading of the winch, addition of chemicals and color, and selection of dyes.
