Cornel University Engineers Develop Automated Fabric Pickup System.

Textile engineers at Cornell Univrsity have develoiped the first fully automated fabric pickup system. Researchers computerized Jet Sew's Clupicker, a mechnical fabric ply separator and feeder used at sewing workstations, to evaluated the proeprties of different fabrics and automatically readjust operation according to the evaluations. The system, which is adaptable to any fabric picker, dtermines fabric weight and relays that information to a computer, which adjusts the picker. In an experiment testing 16 different fabrics, the device successfully picked off the top layer of fabric from every stack of cut-outs.
