Fuzzy inference is a new method of color evaluation. An expert formaulates optimized membership functions used in the fuzzy production rules. These membership functions define standard color values and limiting values for judging color in a CIELAB uniform color space. The memebership functions construct a fuzzy judgment of fabric at every color value. A computer simulation using fuzzy inference evaluated woolen samples. The results of the fuzzy judgment compared well with judgments made by an expert. 7 refs.
