The problem of the instrumental control of color and its quantification has, for the most part, been solved in the textile industry. Installations in the textile industry tend to he used by dydhouses to formulate dyes and for quality control. Two types of instruments are used: colorimeters and spectrophotometers. Portalble, battery operatied versions of both instrumetns are available, ranging in weight from 1.6 to 2.5 kilograms for onsite use. Whereas the portable machines do not offer the same performance levels as alboratory equipment, they produce sufficient data for onsite decision making. Portale color measurement devices are available from Minolta, Better Method Alexander, Sodexim, Datacolor, Macbeth, Hunterlab, and Topcon.
