The perception of color depends on the light source, the object, and the visual system. Because of these variables, it is difficult to communicate color. The Hong Kong Productivity Council's computer-aided color communication system for designers and dyers replaces the old method of passing color samples back and forth between the designer and the dyer until the desired color is achieved. The computer permits the display of many colors that can be changed relative to hue, saturation, and brightness. The CIE system of color specification is used to calibrate the system. Every color has a CIE digiatl specification to ensure color reproducibility. The system can integrate with a computer color matching system to develop dye formulas.
