The diffusionof p-aminoazobenzene dye into multiple layers of fabric was studied in four plain weave nylon fabrics. Varying the pick spacing altered the yarn density of the fabrics. By approximating the apparent diffustion coefficient and the diffustional boundary layer parameter, the experimental data fit the teoretical curve of concentration distribution established by the diffustionboundary layer model. The apparent diffusion coefficient increased as the pick density of the fabric decreased, suggesting that diffusion behavior depends on a combined transport mechanism of pore and intraillament diffusion. The plot of the apparent diffustion coefficent versus the product of the porosity and the specific pore volume depicted a linear relationship in the limited porosity range of about 0.68 to 0.73 at various temperatures. 13 refs.
