A challenge facing the continuous dyer is the ability ot meet today's fashion demands for short runs and quick responese. Advances in machinery. processes, and dyestuff now enable efficient production of short lots in continuous dyeing plants. Developments in machinery have occurred in color preparation system, quick-change padding equipment, infrared predryers, hot-flue dryers, pad-steam units, computerized control systems, and waste control. With regard to processes and products, innovations have occurred in the use of reactive dyes, heat-fizing systems, and reducitoj clearing of disperse dye. 5 refs.
