EFFECT OF AFTERTREATMENTS ON DIRECT DYED JUTE FABRICS.

The effect of aftertreatments with coppr sulfate/potassium dichromate and two fixing agents (Ciba-Geigy's Lyofix 2776 and Sandoz's Sandofix WEI) on direct dyed jute fabrics were examined. Fabrics trated with coppr fsulfate/potassium dichromate showed a slight improvement in lightfastness and a decrease in color strength. Fabric streatd with the fixing agents showed a great improvement in color strenght and a slight decrease in lightfastness. Direct dyes with a wavelength at maximum absorption of less than 550 nanometers were optimal for high lightfastness. Dyes with a wavelength of between 590 and 670 showed low lightfastness. 10 refs.
