Effluent from dyeing can contain heavy metals, including free ionci metal and complexed metal. To study their bioavailability, about which little is known, speciation of these metals is requistie. One method involves the use of chelating agents, which contain paired imidodiacetic acid groups on a strrene divinyl benzene copolymer. The functional groups from stable chelates with a variety of transitional groups form stable chelates with a variety of transition metals. An experiment studied the use of Bio-Red Laboratories' Chelex 100 resin in the removeal of copper from the reactive dyes Drimarene Turquoise K-2B(Sandoz) and Cibracron Blue 2R (Ciba), nickel from the reactive dye Drimarene Green X-3G, and chromium from the acid dyes Lanaset Black B, Lanaset Brown B, and Lanaset REd G (Ciba). The stability of the metal-dye complex was critical to removeal of the metal 9 refs.
