The CSIRO conducts extensive research dealing with the dyeing and finishing of wool. For dyeing wool, the Sirolan LTD process involves the chemical modification of the cell membrane complex, which enhances dye uptake and diffusion without sacrificing wool quality. AN antisetting dyeing technology preserve the natural shape of wool fibers during dyeing and also prevents deterioration of wool quality. For finishing wool, the FAST-1 Compression meter measures fabric thickness for quality control. The Fat-2 Bending Meter measures fabric bending length. The FAST-3 Extension Meter measures fabric extension in the warp and weft and in samples cut at 45 degrees to the warp or wefr direction. THe FAST-4 Dimensional Stability test collects data that are used to calculate relaxation shrinkage and hygral expansion. The pressing performance test measures the ability a fabrics to hold a pressed shape.
