Colorimetric Recipe Calculation for Polyester Dyeings Against the Background of the Absorptio Behavior of Dyestuffs in Trichromaticites.

Sample dyeing of polyester with disperse dyes is frequently necessary prior to production dyeing to ensure the accuracy and reproducibility of the color. Even when the dye formula has been calculated via colorimetry, dyes used in dark shades, low concentrations, and/or in trichromaticites tend to be problematic, particularly in evaluating individual, relative residual dye exhaustion. Various method, including spectrophotometry, exist to calculate this value. The correction factor calculated from the relative residual dye exhasution compensates for the yield loss caused by any dye interactions or blockages. The use of this calculation significantly decreases the number of sample dyeings required to obtain satisfactory dye formulations. 4 refs.
