The decolorizing of dyeing effluents by complexing the dye molecules with the ligand cucubituril is studied. An almost quantitative removal of the dyes from the effluent is possible even if textile auxiliaries are present. In most cases the chemical oxygen demand is not affected by the decolorizing. Ligand regeneration by oxidative degradation of the dye molecules is possible only in a few cases. Cucubituril can, however, be regenerated by using ion pair extraction of the dye molecules.
