The treatment of wastewater from the textile industry is studied by a process of sequential treatment of UV/H₂O₂/O₃. Results of the decolorization of the effluent and the reduction of total organic carbon (TOC) are measured. Two wastewater streams from a textile plant using direct dyes Black 22 and Blue 199 are collected individually for this investigation. The two dyes are known to be the most difficult to treat among the azo dyes. In this study, three treatment methods are investigated separately. They are: ozone alone, by UV/H₂O₂, by the sequential ozone and UV/H₂O₂ treatment. Results show that the sequential ozone and UV/H₂O₂ treatment method give the best performance on both of the decolorization and TOC reduction of wastewater within the same period of treatment time. The effects of pH and dosages of H₂O₂ on the treatment process are also investigated.
