A review of developments in finishing technology includes discussions of cotton finishing, drying machines, dyeing machines, electronic control, and color preparation systems. Improved resins, better control instrumentation, and better pressing have improved the performance of wrinkle-resistant cotton apparel. In drying technology, the Cool Dry system is available from Fastran Engineering Limited and is marketed in the United States by Symtech. In the Cool Dry process, drying temperatures never exceed 140 degrees centigrade. The process has successfully processed loose/raw fiber, tow, hank, top, and yarn packages. A system to dry piece goods is under development. Gaston County recently introduced improvements to its Futura line of jet dyeing machines. Machine enhancements include overflow wash and improved machine access for maintenance and cleaning. A new split seal option for the main pump reduces downtime for seal replacement. Stainless steel assembly reduces corrosion. Gaston County also offers its own electronic components for drying machines. The firm's Super-Tex +SQL is a UNIX based and integrated dyehouse management system. Color Service, an Italian company that is also represented by Symtech, offers dye storage, dispensing, dissolving, and distribution systems for powder dyes; storage, delivery, and dispensing systems for liquid dyes; and storage, dispensing, dissolving, and delivery systems for auxiliary chemicals.
