Application of Ultrasonic in Dyeing and its Effluent Problems.

To determine the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the direct dyeing of cotton fabrics, researchers immersed preconditioned fabric samples in dyebaths for durations of up to 90 minutes and exposed them to varying accoustic intensities. A comparison of performance data from conventional and ultrasonic dyeing processes revealed that acoustic vibration enhanced sample affinity and dye uptake rates, especially at low dye concentrations. Increases in electrolyte concentration and duration improved sample dye uptake rates in both conventional and ultrasonic dyeing proceses. 5 refs.
