Recent Technological Advances and Future Trends in Dyeing.

An overview of recent developments in dyeing highlights new performance, disperse, and reactive dyes; novel application methods for polyester, cellulosic, and wool fibers; and advances in jiggers, air jet dyeing machines, and continuous dyeing machines. Recent research is reviewed for woven fabric dyeing, garment dyeing, terry towel dyeing, microfiber dyeing, and the dyeing of hosiery and knit goods. Although future research concerning benzodifuranone based disperse dyes will focus on uptake, the future development of reactive dyes will center on greater reproducibility and application flexibility. Jiggers will soon feature pumps for recirculating dye liquor, automatically controlled drain valves, and effective crease removing expanders. 17 refs.
