Heavy Metals Removal from Groundwater with Du Pont/Oberlin SITE Technology

The United States EPA Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) program recently demonstrated the novel Du Pont/Oberlin Microfiltration Technology, which features Du Pont's new Tyvek T-980 flash spun olefin filter media coupled with Oberlin's reliable automatic pressure filter and Enviroguard's PROFIX filter aid for metals stabilization. The new microfiltration technology is suitable for wastewater and groundwater contaminated with heavy metals. The SITE demonstration removed zinc, copper, cadmium, selenium, and lead from a Pennsylvania zinc smelting Superfund site. The microfiltration method removed 99.95 percent of the zinc and total suspended solids, and generated firm, dry cakes (comprising 41 percent solids) that passed the Paint Filter Test and TCLP. 16 refs.
