Colour aspects of soaping and washing of dyed fabrics

The colour difference of reactive dyed fabrics with several soaping agents and the colour change of them after washing were investigated using the L*, a*, b* uniform colour scale, to assess the effect of fluorescent brightening agents. In conclusion, little colour difference was observed between dyed fabrics soaped by nonionic surfactant, higher alcohol netural detergent or soap and the blank soaped ones, while with sodium carbonate greater colour difference was observed. Detergents with fluorescent brightening agents induced colour change in light-coloured fabrics. In the paper, the quantitative method and the criteria using the critical lightness Lc* and the constant K in order to estimate the effect of detergents containing fluorescent brightening agents on colour change is proposed.
